Types Of Cardiovascular Activities

Since cardiovascular activities are a must in most workout routines, it is great to kmow that the treadmill is not the only form of cardio you can choose from. There are dozens of different cardio related activities which can be done at home, outside and in the winter and summer months of the year.

It makes no difference if you are an athletic person or someone just looking for something to help you lose or maintain your weight, there is an activity out there for you. It is always a great idea to expand your version of cardiovascular activities so you are not trapped in the gym all year when there are so many more options out there for you.

Some cardiovascular activities you may have never thought of include:

Skiing - this is a great work out and one you can spend the entire day doing because it is not just walking on the treadmill it is a lot of fun. This is a great workout for people who are young and old and you don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy this great winter sport.

Dancing - dancing can be a real workout for those of you out there who love to dance. It is a great way to get your heart rate up and enjoy the music and the people at the same time. Dancing is a very social activity and one you can do literally anywhere so the next time someone asks you to dance say yes!

Walking - whether you are walking through the city to go to the bank, walking through the mall for the day or even just walking the dog after supper a brisk walk is a great way to improve and progress your cardiovascular system. You do not have to be “power walking” an enjoyable and casual walk is all it takes.

Rollerblading - rollerblading is a great alternative to running, although you are going through the same motions you can go much faster and smoother with less effort than jogging or running. Rollerblading is something you can do as a group and is a great summer activity.

Swimming - is another summer activity or even a winter activity if you have an indoor pool that is great for your heart rate and cardio strength. If you like doing laps or simply swimming around with your friends you are really doing a cardio exercise and you may not even realize it.

Biking - this is something more and more people are beginning to enjoy and it doesn’t matter what your age because biking can be as intense or laid back as you like. You can off road bike through mountains and trails or take a leisurely ride after dinner through your neighborhood.

These are great and fun alternatives to running or walking on the treadmill at the gym. No one really enjoys that type of cardio but if you think there are no other options than you feel like you have no choice. Take the time to find alternative cardio activities and ones that you will enjoy participating in. The best part is that with many of these activities you can do them with a group of people and really enjoy yourself to the point where you don’t even realize you are exercising anymore and this is what everyone wants.

The next time you are planning a trip or trying to think of something to do, avoid watching TV and movies and choose one of these great cardio activities, you will find the more you do them, the more often you are going to want to be active instead of lazy.
